How do you say stupid??

Wow, how dumb do you have to be to not realize you do not have an unlimited texting plan before trying to break the record for most texts?????

Record attempt reaps 217K texts, $26K phone bill

PHILADELPHIA -
Their thumbs sure must be sore. Two central Pennsylvania friends spent most of March in a text-messaging record attempt, exchanging a thumbs-flying total of 217,000. For one of the two, that meant an inches-thick itemized bill for $26,000.

Nick Andes, 29, and Doug Klinger, 30, were relying on their unlimited text messaging plans to get them through the escapade, so Andes didn't expect such a big bill.

"It came in a box that cost $27.55 to send to me," he said Tuesday. He said he "panicked" and called T-Mobile, which told The Associated Press it had credited his account and was investigating the charges.

The two Lancaster-area residents have been practically nonstop texters for about a decade since they attended Berks Technical Institute together.

That led Andes to search for the largest monthly text message total he could find posted online: 182,000 sent in 2005 by Deepak Sharma in India.

Andes and Klinger were able to set up their phones to send multiple messages. During a February test run they found they could send 6,000 or 7,000 messages on some days, prompting the March messaging marathon.

"Most were either short phrases or one word, 'LOL' or 'Hello,' things like that, with tons and tons of repeats," said Andes, reached by phone.

Andes sent more than 140,000 messages, and Klinger sent more than 70,000 to end the month with a total of just over 217,000, he said.

A spokesman for Guinness World Records didn't immediately return messages asking whether it would be certified as a record.

April came as a relief to Andes' wife, Julie, who had found his phone tied up with texting when she tried to call him on lunch breaks.

"She was tired of it the first few days into it," Andes said.

The Rise of Varlamov - Caps Goalie of the Future

Here is Coach Boudreau on Varly.

Mutombo: Career Over

Following a knee injury, long time NBA Center Dikembe Mutombo says his career is over. Mutombo may not have been the best center of his time, but I think people would be hard pressed to not give him credit as one of the most intimidating shot blockers of his time. His trademark finger waive anchored the defences of no less than 6 NBA teams during his career that began a whopping EIGHTEEN years ago.

He's now a shadow of the talent that he was in his prime but still could spell some quality minutes when called upon, even today. So for in honor of his career, below is a highlight clip from NBA TV.

A humble NBA star?

Anyone who watched the Bulls-Celtics overtime game on Saturday may have seen the interview of Derrick Rose after the game. If you did and had not seen him interviewed prior to this, you may have been a bit surprised. His answers were very "yes ma'am" and "no, ma'am." When asked if he realized that with 36 points (to go with double digit assists) he tied the record for most points by a rookie in his playoff debut, Rose simply looked towards the ground and replied with something to the effect of "no I was not aware." His answers were very team centric and he geniunely appears embarassed by the attention. This is very similar to interviews he has been conducting throughout the season.

It is likely to early to know for sure how successful of a career will be had by Rose. He certainly has the potential to be a star, but the league is filled with potential, never realized. He also could become a player who develops an attitude if he continues to get better. However, today, Derrick Rose appears to be an incredible rarity - a budding NBA star who would rather play than talk.

Winners of four straight, the Lyons are now 4-6 overall and 4-1 in league play, as they remain tied for second in the conference standings. The Cadets fell to 2-7 and 0-5.

Landers tallied a man-up marker just 3:13 into the contest to give Wheaton a lead it did not relinquish, and a 10-0 Lyon run between the second and fourth quarters blew open a four-goal game. Sophomore Ben Cederberg (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) and freshman Billy McNamara (Mansfield, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon School) each contributed two goals and three assists, while first-year Mike Harrington (Sturbridge, MA/Bancroft School) turned in a pair of markers and helpers each.

Senior Chris Gogan-Tilstone (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) was one of five players to score once, as he turned in his initial college tally during his first season playing for the Lyons. Juniors Warren Garceau (Guilford, CT/Canterbury School) and Tim Horan (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) and sophomores Bobby Barry (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) and Will Henry (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Junior Andrew Brunhofer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and freshman Charlie Willauer (Duxbury, MA/Proctor Academy) each won a team-high four face-offs, while junior Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) made nine saves.

Wheaton gained a 4-0 advantage by the 6:08 mark of the opening quarter, tallying the first quartet of markers in a 5:39 stretch. Each team scored twice during the ensuing 8:02, but the Lyons reeled off 10 consecutive tallies in a span of 32:18 to put the game out of reach. Norwich netted the final two goals of the contest, snapping a 36:58 scoreless drought when sophomore Tyler Woods (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) tallied at 4:03.

Woods notched a goal and an assist for the Cadets, while junior Kyle Marzeoti (Billerica, MA/Shawsheen Tech) scored twice and went 10-for-16 on face-offs. Freshman Nathan Proctor (Pleasanton, CA/Foothill) made 15 stops in net.

Their four-game home slate now complete, the Lyons take to the road on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. Pilgrim contest with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Wheaton and the Engineers are tied for second in the league standings.
